It's a classic story: Boy loves girl, girl loves boy, girl is his high school teacher, they die in a murder-suicide shooting before the big dance in 1955, boy becomes poltergeist and recreates the tragedy by possessing innocents until a gender-swapped Angel/Buffy give them the cathartic forgiveness they need to escape the cycle of toxic masculinity and rage. How many times have we heard this one, honestly?
